Bike tour to Cuxhaven to the "Alte Liebe" (Old Love)

Image
Hello everyone 👋, Today we went on a bike tour 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️ to Cuxhaven. Our first destination was the Cuxhavener Platte 🚐. This is a very large and popular, completely paved parking area for motorhomes, located directly at the Cuxhaven ferry port and considered one of the most famous motorhome parking areas in Germany. It has achieved cult status not because of its surface, but because of its unique location. The site is situated right on the North Sea and the mouth of the Elbe River, where you can observe the traffic of the large container ships, cruise ships, and ferries on their way to the Kiel Canal or Hamburg up close. The first row of pitches offers a direct, unobstructed view of the shipping channel. From there, we continued on to the "Alte Liebe" (Old Love) viewing platform, which has a 300-year history.  At that time, the harbor entrance was severely damaged by storm surges. To protect the harbor and prevent erosion of the shoreline, three decommissioned ships were ...

On the North Sea coast from Duhnen to the Kugelbake

Image
Hello! After arriving safely at the North Sea in Duhnen yesterday, we started today with a leisurely breakfast 🥐🥪☕️ Afterwards, we took a long walk on the beach 🏖 under a clear blue sky and sunshine ☀️. We started at the beach in Duhnen and walked to the Kugelbake in Cuxhaven. The Kugelbake is a well-known navigational beacon and landmark of the city of Cuxhaven. It is located on the busy shipping lane at the mouth of the Elbe River into the North Sea. From there, we were able to watch some incredibly large ships entering and leaving the Elbe 🛳⛴️🚢. ...  On the way there, we passed the northernmost point of Lower Saxony 🟥🐎🟥 on the mainland and also saw the beginning and end of the Elbe Cycle Path 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️. This is one of Germany's best-known and most popular long-distance cycle routes, following the Elbe River from its source to its mouth at approximately 1280 meters. Our dog Eddie 🐶 also had a fantastic time, sniffing and playing to his heart's content on the beach. ...

Historic Hanseatic city of Stade

Hello everyone 👋, Our stay in the former Hanseatic city of Stade ⛵️🏰 is slowly drawing to a close. There's so much to see here that we spontaneously decided to extend our stay by one night before heading on to Cuxhaven tomorrow. The historic old town with its historic harbor, numerous small half-timbered houses, and charming alleyways is well worth seeing. We also decided to take a guided city tour. It was very worthwhile, and we learned a lot about the city's history. Our campsite is located directly in front of the historic old town and is run by the Hanseatic city of Stade. The individual pitches are clearly numbered and separated from each other by small hedges. The ground is quite level, so we didn't need leveling ramps. All pitches are equipped with an electrical hookup. Charging is done with a prepaid card, which is issued by the payment machine at check-in. Each time the card is tapped on the power outlet, €3 of electricity credit is deducted.  The cost per kilo...
