Harz Moments: Between Ancient Legends, Natural Power, and Van Life

Image
The Harz is far more than just a mountain range—it is a place where time seems to stand still while you recharge your batteries for the present. Recently, I experienced two tours that truly grounded us and reminded us of our roots, while also gathering some valuable "lessons learned" for life on the road. Basecamp Bad Harzburg: Tips for Campers Our starting point was the motorhome site in Bad Harzburg . The location is unbeatable: both the Tourist Information and the cable car are within easy walking distance. However, don’t underestimate the popularity of this spot—even in early March, the site was surprisingly full. Pro tip: The area on the "Eisbahn" (ice rink) has recently been opened up, which provides extra capacity. A few practical notes for your visit: Tech & Payment: The payment machine is sheltered under the roof at the "HexenstΓΌbchen." Important: Both the electricity pillars and the fresh water station only accept 50-cent coins . Electricit...

Bike tour to Cuxhaven to the "Alte Liebe" (Old Love)

Hello everyone πŸ‘‹, Today we went on a bike tour 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️ to Cuxhaven. Our first destination was the Cuxhavener Platte 🚐. This is a very large and popular, completely paved parking area for motorhomes, located directly at the Cuxhaven ferry port and considered one of the most famous motorhome parking areas in Germany. It has achieved cult status not because of its surface, but because of its unique location. The site is situated right on the North Sea and the mouth of the Elbe River, where you can observe the traffic of the large container ships, cruise ships, and ferries on their way to the Kiel Canal or Hamburg up close. The first row of pitches offers a direct, unobstructed view of the shipping channel. From there, we continued on to the "Alte Liebe" (Old Love) viewing platform, which has a 300-year history.  At that time, the harbor entrance was severely damaged by storm surges. To protect the harbor and prevent erosion of the shoreline, three decommissioned ships were ...

Hello! After arriving safely at the North Sea in Duhnen yesterday, we started today with a leisurely breakfast πŸ₯πŸ₯ͺ☕️ Afterwards, we took a long walk on the beach πŸ– under a clear blue sky and sunshine ☀️. We started at the beach in Duhnen and walked to the Kugelbake in Cuxhaven. The Kugelbake is a well-known navigational beacon and landmark of the city of Cuxhaven. It is located on the busy shipping lane at the mouth of the Elbe River into the North Sea. From there, we were able to watch some incredibly large ships entering and leaving the Elbe πŸ›³⛴️🚒. ...  On the way there, we passed the northernmost point of Lower Saxony πŸŸ₯🐎πŸŸ₯ on the mainland and also saw the beginning and end of the Elbe Cycle Path 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️. This is one of Germany's best-known and most popular long-distance cycle routes, following the Elbe River from its source to its mouth at approximately 1280 meters. Our dog Eddie 🐢 also had a fantastic time, sniffing and playing to his heart's content on the beach. ...
